Michelle Williams is most known for being an R&B and gospel music crooner, but recently she has been dabbling in the dance music genre. The former Destiny Child member’s 2008 album Unexpected has the dance hit single “We Break the Dawn.”

Williams is continuing down that path with a newly released single “Love Gun.” She is proving to be paving her own lane with her own sound, and in an interview with TheBoombox.com, she explained her attraction to this different type of music.

“The song ‘Love Gun’ is actually an extension of my 2008 album, titled Unexpected, which had a dance-pop, type of feel,” said Williams. “So I’ve been doing this style of music now, I’d say going on three years now. Of course, my first two solo albums were gospel and gospel still being my first love, which I will definitely be doing a gospel album soon.”

‘Love Gun’ was produced by Druski, and Williams says that she was experimenting more so with the song’s lyrics and not the sound.

“This isn’t different from anything I’ve been doing. We were just playing around in the studio and it is just a song I decided to record. That’s how it came about. I love all types of music—jazz, classical, blue grass, pop, dance, whatever. As long as I feel good and I feel like it can everybody feel in a great way and inspire, then it’s all good to me.”
