Reality Shows with Positivity

It’s no secret that reality shows have become the new television darlings. They give viewers what they want—high-intensity drama and impact. But that’s also come at a price.

Besides breaking network ratings, some reality shows have come under fire for their content which may consist of fighting, offensive language, cattiness and high school-like behavior. Networks have taken notice of the fact that viewers want more positive reality shows that are entertaining without constant drama. Below, are four reality shows that are as positive but still entertain audiences.

Chef Roble & Co.:

Network: Bravo

Chef Roble Ali is a twenty-something chef who started his own catering company inNew York City. The first season took viewers behind-the-scenes as Roble and his sister Jasmine, who is also his company’s business manager, catered events for some of the biggest names inNew York City. They worked on everything from a doggie wedding, a Bollywood-themed birthday party, a graduation party for Vanessa Williams’ daughter and a dinner party for the who’s who of the fashion world. Of course preparing food for sometimes wealthy picky eaters comes with its own set of problems, but Chef Roble and his team manage it well.

LaLa’s Full Court Life:

Network: VH1

In the first season of her show, LaLa’s Full Court Life, LaLa Anthony shows how she balances being a mother, wife, business woman, television personality and still makes time for her friends. Her nice demeanor instantly dispels her of the stereotypes many have come to believe are true of a professional basketball player’s wife. A highlight of the show was the transition LaLa and her family made when her husband, NBA player Carmelo Anthony, was traded to the New York Knicks in the middle of the season. The second season of LaLa’s Full Court Life returns to VH1 in March.

I Do Over:

Network: WEtv

I Do Over stars Diann Valentine, a well-renowned event planner with a host of celebrity clients. The show gives married couples the chance to have another wedding after their first walk down the aisle was a disaster. Wedding disasters include a five-alarm reception hall fire, a wedding ruined by a tsunami warning, a groom falling unconscious at the alter, and a missing seamstress who has all the dresses. In just five days, Valentine, along with Jim McCann, the founder of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM and Celebrations.com, create weddings couples never would have imagined.

T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle:

Network: VH1

When the news first broke that rapper T.I. would be getting a reality show upon his release from prison, critics were skeptical and thought it sent a message that T.I. was being rewarded for having served a prison sentence. However, from the moment T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle premiered, viewers saw T.I. as a husband and father, not the rapper they had come to know. A great moment was when T.I. opted to attend his son’s football game instead of a soundcheck for an award show performance. The show is proving to be good for T.I.’s career as he adjusts back to family life.
